Magical hotel…Koh Samui–

POW!  This is our favorite hotel on the island of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand…it’s the Saree Samui–mmm, aaaahh!

Saree Samui is a lovely boutiquey-type hotel about a 30 minute drive from the Samui Airport.  It is situated away from the extremely touristy Fisherman’s Village in a quiet location on the northern side of the island facing Koh Phangan…in fact, you can see Koh Phangan in the distance while frolicking in the delightful infinity pool facing the sea.

The property consists of many walled-off open air rooms with all bedrooms sealed to keep the bugs out and cooled with a/c if you like…the rest of each room has open-air seating areas and open-air bathrooms–some rooms include private plunge pools.  We love room number 114…it is large, has a pool, sits on a corner with minimal neighbors, and faces the sea–quite magical with the warm breezes, palm trees swaying all around, and birds of all types and sizes singing away throughout the day.

The staff here are totally switched on…the restaurant serves delicious food all day every day…the beverages flow whenever you want them…and the overall vibe is chill and relaxing in a low-key cozy manner.

We love staying at Saree Samui. . .check it out some time–we are confident that you will love it, too!

It’s lovely out there.

Day 82…on the move AGAIN–

IMG_1640 IMG_1646 IMG_1648POW!  Now we make our way to Koh Samui Airport, quite easily one of the most beautiful airports that we have ever traveled through–lush gardens are all around us, lovely ponds full of lotus plants lead us to our gate, brand new open-air gates with extremely clean toilets nearby open their arms to us–mmm, aaaahh!…and wonderful large golf carts whisk us to our airplane–this whole place feels like a section of DisneyWorld that could be called Thai-Island-Land. . .really gorgeous. . .if there was a pool, then we would stay here for a couple of days just for kicks, but there is no pool, so we board our plane.

I have to tell you that the islands of Thailand have seduced us. . .at least the two that we have visited: Koh Phangan and Koh Samui.  These islands are hilly, lush, rugged, warm, and inviting. . .AND all of the people that we encounter here are, for the most part, welcoming and friendly.  The locals are feeling a bit of strain though. . .tons of farangs are here looking to party all night long, looking to expand their minds with shrooms and other psycho-tropic substances, and they are trampling things a bit in the process.  We hope that the Thai government keeps some kind of lookout over developments on both islands, and we hope that they keep the parties in the isolated parts of the islands where they now exist so that we older and more tired folks can keep coming back to enjoy the serenity and gloriousness that make up the majority of the terrain here.  “Chok dee” to everyone involved in managing these delicious islands.

I send you appreciative and gracious vibes from Koh Samui Airport. . .feel them. . .they are good for your mental health.

Day 81…on the move–

IMG_0556 IMG_1612 IMG_0563 IMG_0567BAM!  This is one way to get from Koh Phangan to Koh Samui. . .you schlep your baggages onto a ferry with about two hundred other folks, sit back, enjoy the ride, and then schlep your baggages to a lovely resort on Koh Samui where you take a break for the rest of the day–from this particular resort, Saree Samui, we have a great view of Phangan while we sip icy-cold brews and contemplate all that we experienced over the past two weeks out there in the wilderness. . .mmm, aaaahh!

This is the ‘cool’ rainy season here in The Gulf of Thailand…temps are only in the mid-to-upper eighties instead of the low nineties of the ‘hot’ season…oh, and the winds are blowing just a bit providing soothing breezes for us, and the clouds are big, puffy, and dramatic providing us with occasional showers that keep us moist and lush.  WE…LOVE…IT…HERE!  Please come and visit some time. . .I am willing to bet one thousand Thai Baht that you will love it here, too–mmmhhmmmm!

I send you mobile vibes from the shores of Koh Samui. . .feel them. . .they will improve your muscle tone and skin texture.

Day 80…island new year–

IMG_1576 IMG_1599JAAA!  Happy 2016!!

The folks at The Sanctuary here on Koh Phangan send us a bottle of bubbly cuz we told them that we are here celebrating our honeymoon, and instead we just decide to use this bottle to ring in the new year at twelve noon Thai time, i.e., twelve midnight New York time…helping us nail two birds with one fizzy stone–a double new year celebration of sorts. . .mmm, aaaahh!

Our Buddha is totally tricked out in our house and seems to approve of our celebration technique–we hope that you approve, too. . .om mani padme hom.

We send you all of the best vibes that we can muster for a wonderful 2016. . .feel them. . .they are oh-most-worthy of your attention.

Day 79…fried fish on the beach–

IMG_0553 IMG_0554Man, I gotta tell you, we love just about every kind of food on planet Earth, but this chili pepper and mint fried red snapper served up at The Sanctuary here on Koh Phangan is rockin’ our world in an extra-special way. . .mmm, aaaahh!  It’s spicy cuz of the chili peppers, it’s minty cuz of the, you guessed it, mint leaves, it’s crispy cuz of the quick deep-fry this baby is cooked in, and it is totally juicy and delectable cuz the Thai and Burmese folks workin’ in the kitchen are totally skilled and rockin’ and rollin’. . .we love this dish and all of the people involved in catchin’, deliverin’, preparin’, and servin’ this to us–may everyone here live a billion years so that they can prepare this for all future humans before the planet burns into a cinder.

I send you delicious fishy vibes from the shores of Koh Phangan. . .feel them. . .they go down real good with an icy-cold Chang beer.

Day 78…water buffalo time–

IMG_1336 IMG_1545Our accommodation here at The Sanctuary, the Star House, is surrounded by a wide variety of flora and fauna: exotic plants, huge tropical trees, palm trees, monkeys, frogs, geckos, monitor lizards, bats, birds, dragon flies, spiders, moths, cats, dogs, mice, etc. and so on, but our favorite guy has got to be the sweet water buffalo who just hangs out in a clearing near the beach. . .he stands and sits around all day and night eating grass, chewing cud, and generally enjoying the passage of time.  Yes, he is a creature from the animal order, but we all know a few folks who could learn a thing or three from this chilled-out creature.

Some say that island life is not a ‘real’ life, whatever that means.  Some ask when we are going to ‘return to reality.’  I say, “what reality are you talking about?”  Pretty much all of human existence is arbitrary, folks.  One can choose one’s reality. . .no one is locked into ANY EXISTENCE. . .anyone can do anything that they want to do–all you gotta do is dream, and make it happen.

Dream somethin’ real good today, and make it happen. . .time is soooo short, you gotta follow your bliss NOW.

Day 77…dancin’ in the moonlight–

IMG_1543MMM!  We are dancin’ in the moonlight here on Koh Phangan in The Gulf of Thailand. . .I hope that you are dancin’ somewhere right NOW!

Many people love hanging out on islands. . .a lot of islands all over the world, at least the popular ones, appear to be built up with tons of modern conveniences and luxurious accommodations, but this particular section of Koh Phangan is not about modernity or luxury, it’s about immersing one’s self into the jungle with the sea as the primary backdrop to all of one’s day-to-day activities. . .and we love it this way.  Our day-to-day activities include rising with the sun, sipping coffee, yoga and walking and stretching, showers, reading, lunch, naps, some din-din, a bit more reading, then to bed with the rising moon and stars.  Wow, I can do this for a long-long time. . .I think that we will.

If everyone on planet Earth could chill out and do some island time for a little while, then there would be no need for elections, shooting, or competing. . .just chill-laxing each and every day.

Your favorite nomadic wanderers are sending you joyous vibes right NOW…feel them, they are good for whatever ails you.

Ok, I return you to your regularly-programmed existence.

It’s lovely out there/here.

Day 76…the rains–

IMG_0517 IMG_0515 IMG_1422Yes, it does piss down rain here on Koh Phangan occasionally. . .it is rainy season here from about October to about the end of January, and we LOVE IT!  In this case it rained for two days straight. . .the air stays warm, the rain itself is warm, we walk around in it doing our day-to-day activities like foraging for breakfast…using the toilet…brushing our teeth…etc. and so on. . .plus, it makes our house feel extra atmospheric with the rain hitting the thatch roof, dripping into our bathroom, and creating the wonderful cozy vibe that encourages us to read all of the books that we have with us. . .mmmm, aaaahh!  And then the rains clear out which is oh-so very good for our shakti–sim sala bim, om mani padmi hom, namaste, and all of that good stuff.

The rest of our days are somewhat overcast, breezy, and always around ninety degrees fahrenheit. . .the water in The Gulf of Thailand is always around eighty degrees or so. . .damn, I can stay here a long time with no worries at all. . .the air is clean-clean-clean–we have no city phlegm or mucus spewing out of us. . .it is back in New York City where it belongs. . .mmm, aaaahh!

I send you serenely cleansing vibes from Koh Phangan. . .feel them. . .they will help you ring in the new year real good.

Day 75…wanderin’ and gobblin’–

IMG_1513 IMG_1508  IMG_1502IMG_1504BAM!  Today we wander around just a bit and work up an appetite. . .so we do some lunch by the sea, lunch on the shore, lunch by the bay, lunch on a huge piece of granite, etc. and so on. . .mmm, aaaahh!

If everyone on the planet could sit by a large body of water, feel the warm breezes on their exposed skin with no feeling of shame or embarrassment, eat oodles of fresh seafood, have a loved-one nearby, sip on a brew or three, and enjoy BEING…HERE…NOW, then there would be less shootings and conflict of any sort amongst people.  Boy-oh-boy, what a world we would have then. . .mmmmhhhmmmm!

I send you extremely soothing vibes from a glorious spot somewhere in The Gulf of Thailand. . .feel them. . .you deserve to fee this good.

Day 74…post-xmas sunrise–

IMG_0546 IMG_0545 IMG_0548 IMG_0551Well now…we have a wonderful sunrise greetings us here in Haad Tien Bay on the southeast coast of Koh Phangan in The Gulf of Thailand this morning. . .mmmm, aaaahh!  Admittedly, we are not doing too much nomadic wandering at the moment cuz it is soooo nice here. . .really nowhere else to go. . .maybe explore the west coast of the island. . .we’ll see. . .gotta get motivated. . .but this is a pretty good place to wind up being unmotivated. . .

. . .I hope that you are getting everything that you desire this holiday season.  I send you sweetly unmotivated vibes from Koh Phangan. . .feel them. . .they will help you sleep in real good tomorrow morning.
