Thoughtfully thoughtless–

sc002dd5bb  sc002dc376 sc002da600sc002dcc9dPeople used to ask Iyengar, “what do you think about during your practice?”  His answer was, “nothing.”  He would continue, “I can remain thoughtfully thoughtless.”  Mmmm, aaaaahh. . .I love this!  I am very good at thinking about nothing, doing nothing, and being thoughtfully thoughtless.  With the weekend upon us let’s all aim for a taste of being thoughtfully thoughtless. . .the cult of busy-ness is only a distraction from being right here, right now.  You know, we only screw things up when we get to thinkin’ too hard. . .cases-in-point: ISIS, Gaza, Iraq, Iran, Ukraine, Crimea, Boko Haram, China Sea Islands, Ferguson, Staten Island, predatory banking, etc.

I send you thoughtfully thoughtless vibes from various locales in India including the midnight train to Pune. . .feel them. . .they can help you be at ease.

See you later, Iyengar–

sc002d0892 sc002d58ac sc002d45af sc002d31faB.K.S. Iyengar died yesterday in his hometown of Pune, India.  Lovely town, Pune, though it is perhaps more famous as the place where the Brits kept Gandhi under house arrest for many years.  Anyway, Iyengar made the world a more manageable place for many people by making the asanas of yoga accessible for many who found them inaccessible.  I love his primary motto: Live happily, die majestically.  Simple and to the point. . .no messin’ around. . .that’s the Iyengar way.  We are right behind him, you know. . .so do it y’all–live happily and die majestically dammit!  Namaste.

I send soothing vibes to all of you from various spots in and around Mumbai, India. . .feel them. . .they are full of happiness and majesty.

We will never forget…

sc002e188d sc002d0892…the great work that Mahatma Gandhi did to secure independence for India and to demonstrate the power of persistent, nonviolent protest to create positive social change. . .or as Gandhi himself put it, “to be the change that we wish to see in the world.”

On January 30, 1948, Gandhi was assassinated in Dehli, India.  Today we remember his legacy, and we celebrate his greatness.  Who will be the next Gandhi of the world?  Can our world accept and roll with another Gandhi?  Is there the possibility of some Gandhi-like figure in the middle east?  Discuss.

Happy MLK, Jr. Day–

sc002d1f01 sc002b544c sc002b5e66BOOM!  Martin Luther King, Jr. spent time here in Mumbai exploring the world of Mahatma Gandhi. . .he wanted to feel the vibes and gain some understanding of Gandhi’s non-violent approach to protest. . .MLK even spent time in Gandhi’s home–it is said that he spent a night alone in Gandhi’s longtime bedroom and emerged ready to continue the long Civil Rights struggle that he knew was ahead of him back in the U.S.  This is a perfect place to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

I send you good vibes of nonviolent struggle from Mumbai. . .feel them. . .they have changed the world for the better.
