Start the year off right–

MMM!  The Year of the Rat has arrived, and we are doing our best to start things off right with magical Japanese cuisine served up by a master: Ichimura at Uchu on the lower east side of Manhattan. . .jaaaaa!!

Ichimura has two Michelin stars now, and it is easy to see why…his preparations of tasty tidbits are ethereal, and his sushi seems near perfect…can’t imagine what one can do to improve this experience.  “Nothing” is the only word that pops into my mind…nothing…no thing can improve Ichimura-san and his food–hai.

During this meal we are treated to a fish appetizer topped with gold and flowers and crispy bits of goodness…then a crab thing…then the famous uni cookie/cake thing…then more fish…then fish and veggies…then sushi and sushi and more sushi until we end with his famous double-slice toro–sublime.  The whole thing is washed down with a bottle of sake called Crane of Paradise–crisp, soothing, peaceful.

Dessert courses include tamagoyaki, berries, fruit sauces, and tea. . .mmmm, aaaaahh!

If everyone could dine with Ichimura once a year, then there would be no war…we would all be too soothed to destroy anything.  Eat here if you can…you will love–I gar-ron-taaaaay!

I send you happy-lunar-new-year vibes from Ichimura here in New York City…feel them…they will make you excited for the year ahead.

It’s lovely out there.

#1 sushi dude…NYC–

MMM!  This guy gets our vote for the current number one sushi master in all of New York City…his name is Ichimura…he plies his trade at a joint called Uchu…if you love sushi, then you should eat here some time before you or he passes.

Uchu is located on Eldridge Street near Stanton Street down in the lower lower east side of Manhattan.  Back in 1991 I did my first play in New York City in this section of town. . .it was mostly empty, run down, with only Katz’s Deli nearby serving up the best pastrami sandwiches in town–perhaps the world.

And now this neighborhood has high-rises, sleek apartments, tons of delectable restaurants, lots of great bars, a Whole Foods, Katz’s is still going strong, AND Ichimura is here serving up fabulous omakase meals of sushi and cooked dishes in Uchu…we are all so lucky to have him here–mmmm, aaaahh!

Ichimura is a sushi master, period.  There are only ten seats in this place where it is an honor to have him prepare everything right before our very eyes with skill, joy, and precision…and even more of an honor that we get to ingest everything that he presents to us with even more joy. . .hai!

There is no better sushi being served in New York at the moment. . .get on down here and gobble this stuff–you will love it all, I gar-ron-taaaaayy!

You gotta reserve online to eat here…go to uchu.com to learn more.

I send you soothing and tasty vibes from Uchu. . .feel them. . .they will set everything right for you.

It’s lovely out there.

Fishy wisdom–

photo 5BAM!  There is great wisdom in simplicity.  For example, the piece of mackerel you see above that Ichimura-san presented to me the other night at his fine sushi joint located inside David Bouley’s Brushstroke.  Delicately cured, artfully scored, expertly placed atop delectable rice. . .and gobbled by me with great pleasure.  Never have I had more interesting sushi. . .never.  I love Ichimura, and you will too if you find yourself sitting at his counter.  Mmmmm. . .aaaaaahh!!

I send you clarifying vibes from Ichimura. . .feel them. . .they are glorious.

I send you oceanic vibes from Ichimura. . .feel them. . .they can lift your spirits.

Sushi Saturday–

photo 2 photo 3 photo 3MMM!  The sushi that Ichimura serves at Brushstroke is quite possibly the tastiest and most interesting that I have ever had.  There are nine seats at his counter, he works alone, we watch everything being prepared right before our very eyes, Ichimura-san is sweet, has a sly smile. . .knowing that his stuff is fabulous.  We gobble, gobble, gobble and smile back as he delivers each incredible piece of fish to us with smooth precision and no b.s.  Mmmmm. . .aaaaaahh!  I love Ichimura, and you will too if you ever make your way into his palace of celebratory seafood.

I send you delectable vibes from Ichimura at Brushstroke. . .feel them. . .they are impossible to ignore.

#1 sushi…NYC–

photo 5 photo 2 photo 4POW!  This is it. . .our new number one sushi joint in New York City: Ichimura at Brushstroke in Tribeca, Manhattan.  This guy rocks fish. . .we have done sushi at Yasuda, Gari, Seki, Jewel Bako, Nakazawa, Soto. . .some of the best places in NYC, but our experience with Ichimura-san down at David Bouley’s restaurant called Brushstroke was our absolute favorite.  Wonderfully tasty sashimi, sushi, and the most delectable chawanmushi that we have ever had anywhere in the world.  I love Ichimura, and you will too if you ever find yourself wandering around near the corner of Duane and Hudson Streets with a hankerin’ for world-champion sushi.

I send you mouth-watering vibes from Ichimura. . .feel them. . .they are good for you.
