People ‘n’ stuff…NYC–

POW!  Back here in da big citaaaaay things are ever-evolving and ever-happening.

Jonathan Waxman is closing his famous restaurant, Barbuto, at the end of this month.  Another wonderful icon of delightful dining disappearing because of rent being raised and inability to strike a deal with the landlord.  Great, there will soon be space for another CVS…blaaaaahh!

Waxman is well-known as an early proponent of California-style Italian cuisine…his roasted/grilled chicken with salsa verde is legendary…Google him to learn more.  We are honored by the opportunity to pop into Barbuto one more time, sip some rose, and share our respect with this bad-ass chef.

He says we should not be sad that he is closing…he says that there will be a “reprieve” in another space just up the block…we sip our rose and do our best to believe him.  Let it be so. . .saluti!

Oh, and Pharrell is in town, too. . .over at the Parsons School of Design benefit.  He says, “say ‘yes’ to creativity!”  We concur. . .YES!

I send you invigorating vibes from Barbuto and Parsons and all of the streets of New York City. . .feel them. . .they will help you keep your mind open real wide…jaaaa!

It’s lovely out there.

Grilled chicken…Chiang Mai-style–

IMG_0007 IMG_0004 IMG_0003 IMG_0002This is one of those ‘famous’ places in Chiang Mai that many locals patronize called Ruam Jai Gai Yang.  They serve simple whole grilled chicken, and it is wonderful.  The key here is that they butterfly the chickens and grill them flat on the open fire.  The end product is flavorful, juicy, and gobble-worthy. . .I could eat two or three of these things if I had to, but I don’t have to so I am happy to just share one with my lovely lady.  We are told that mui thai kick boxing guys love eating here because the food is honest and delicious and nutritious and inexpensive.  We are honored to put a feed on in a place that the boxers revere. . .mmmm, aaaahh!

I send you straightforward vibes from Ruam Jai Gai Yang. . .feel them. . .they always satisfy.

Another year upon us–

IMG_0011 IMG_0007 IMG_0004 IMG_0001Here in Thailand the new year will be 2558 in the Buddha era. . .most of the rest of the world will celebrate the arrival of 2015.  Either way it is simply an arbitrary human attempt to organize and structure the flow of time. . .feeble. . .ham-handed. . .but fun nonetheless.

Whatever time structure and calendar you are following it is a good idea to eat something tasty while celebrating. . .above you see us gobbling some grilled chicken here in Chiang Mai at a place called Poom Chai Gai Yang.  This place is a Chiang Mai institution. . .been serving up tasty chicken to the masses for many years. . .I love it here, and you will too if you ever find yourself wandering around in the center of Lanna culture and cuisine lookin’ for somethin’ good to jam into yer gullet.

I send you tasty vibes from Poom Chai Gai Yang. . .feel them. . .they are oh-so good for you.
