Brunch with a punch–

BAM!  Our new favorite brunch spot in New York City is Lure Fishbar located on the corner of Prince and Mercer Streets in the Soho section of Manhattan. . .mmm, aaaahh!

Oysters, crab claws, thick bacon, and traditional eggs benedict with crispy hash browns and bitter greens are all delectable here. . .plus, when we wash everything down with bloody marys and a bottle of rose everything becomes magical.

Lure is great for dinner–everyone knows this…but we think it is even greater for brunch. . .come on down here yourself some time and try it–I am willing to bet a large splodge of wonga that you will LOVE IT!

Hot spot…La Crosse, WI–

WOW!  We just found a new spot that is serving tasty grub and delectable bloody marys here in La Crosse, Wiskonsen–The Mint…let’s check it out.

Finally, there is a desirable place for us to eat in outside of our favorite hotel, The Charmant, where we do most of our eatin’ ‘n’ sippin’.  The Mint is high quality, cozy, and totally restorative.

The Mint is run by the same people in town who run a place called The Root Note–another chilled-out eating and drinking and hanging out place that is a tad edgier, i.e., they allow amateur rappers to perform at various ongoing open-mikes during prime hours…we find that this impedes our ability to have a good relaxing time…ah well, we’re gettin’ old.

While at The Mint we feel more at home. . .the waitstaff are helpful and relaxed, there is a lot of dark wood everywhere that we find soothing, and the food is great.  During our visit we gobble something called ‘Hot Hash’–smoked trout sauteed with potatoes, yams, greens, and radishes served with runny eggs on top–really tasty…a burger cooked a perfect medium-rare topped with cheese and served on a soft brioche bun–delicious…a side of sunnyside-up eggs and bacon for gnoshing and dipping of burger into runny yolks–mmmm, aaaaahh!

And everything is washed down with a couple of delightful bloody marys topped with pickles, cured meat, cheese, and pickled beets…really good and totally satisfying–jaaaa!!

Please pop into The Mint in La Crosse, WI if you ever find yerself toolin’ around in da great midwest of the da U.S. of A.. . .you will find lots of gobblin’ ‘n’ sippin’ satisfaction here–I gar-ron-taaaayy!!

It’s all a blur…NYC–

BAM!  We hit the ground running…our flight arrives late into NYC…we drop our bags at home…we head out cuz we are HUNGRY and THIRSTY. . .BOOM–is that the Empire State Building appearing before us?  Yes, it is. . .why is it green tonight?…the building website says it is to honor City Harvest weekend or something raising money and awareness for folks in need of food and shelter–niiiice!

We head uptown for sushi…we head home for sleep…we head to Minetta for brunch…we slurp down multiple bloodys…gobble multiple eggs on multiple slices of salmon…inhale many strips of thick-cut bacon–thick bacon makes us oh-so-happy–jaaa!

Impossible to get tired of this town. . .so much to see and do and drink and eat, and soooo little time.

I send you blurry vibes from the island of Manhattan here in beautiful New York Citaaaay. . .feel them. . .they will help you forge upward and onward.

The staff at the Galloway Grille are welcoming and friendly and efficient. . .the room is okeedokee though we like sitting in the big window in front so we can gaze at the goings-on in front of the dive bar across the street as we gobble all of this goodness.  We will come back here again and again when we return to Eau Claire, and we highly recommend that you seek this place out whenever you visit. . .you will love it as much as we do–I gar-ron-taaaayy!!

#1 brunch…Madtown, WI–

FullSizeRender IMG_4527 IMG_4524BOOM!  Here it is…The Weary Traveler on Willy Street–this place gets our vote for the number one brunch spot in Madison, Wisconsin.  The vibe is super-chill…the staff are friendly and welcoming…the space is full of wood and wood and more wood creating a cozy feel for us…the bloody mary is spicy and extremely tasty…they do brunch on both Saturday AND Sunday when most places here only do brunch on Sunday for some reason, and the food is delicious–our eggs are a little overdone, this can be remedied on our next visit.  This all adds up to a fabulous brunch experience here in Madtown.  Plus, they have Hungarian Goulash on the menu–I gobble a large cup, and it is fascinatingly delectable. . .we will return to this place again and again because we are two perpetual weary travelers who are always lookin’ for a good place to park our butts and gobble some goodness. . .mmmm, aaaahh!

Brunchin’ in Madtown–

IMG_3538 FullSizeRender IMG_3545MMM!  We want some good bloody marys, we want some tasty brunch food like runny egg yolks and sausages and gravy and home fries and hollandaise sauce, and we want to see naked people riding bicycles. . .so we head to Mickey’s Tavern on Willy Street in the heart of Madison, Wisconsin, and BOOM all of our dreams come true.

The bartenders at Mickey’s Tavern will make your bloody mary as spicy as you want it, and we want ours real spicy. . .we tell him this, and he then douses a healthy amount of some dark rich-looking hot sauce into our glasses, fills them up with vodka, ice, and bloody mary mix, and then loads each drink with pickles, cucumbers, peppers, and olives making for a tangy meal that can be enjoyed as we are slurping down the spicy goodness that each drink becomes. . .mmm, aaaahh!  I am willing to bet a large splodge of wonga that there is no bloody mary in town that is better than this one. . .please, if I am missing a better bloody mary in Madison, then fill me in and help me change the faulty path that I am on.

This is the place to be in Madison, Wisconsin–Willy Street–there are loads of bars, taverns, restaurants, bakeries, butchers, and wine stores on this cozy and interesting street. . .plus, the Willy Street C0-op is here…a great place for grocery shopping because everything is locally sourced, all of the products are top-notch, and the whole store is set up to be as “green” and sustainable as possible.  If you only come here to shop at the C0-op, then you will get a good taste of what this area of Madison is all about.

Smalltown brunch, bigtown flavor–

IMG_3328 IMG_3325 IMG_3324 IMG_3323POW!  It doesn’t matter where we are or what we are doing…we will find a place for brunch that makes us go, “aaaaahh!”  Here in Mineral Point, Wisconsin the place that does this for us is the Red Rooster Cafe located on High Street right smack dab in the middle of town.  The Red Rooster is ‘famous’ for their Cornwall-style pasties, which are simply rugged dough casings filled with potatoes and meats and veggies. . .like a really hearty pierogi or a really heavy dumpling.  The pasties here are good but not as good as those we have had in England. . .the Red Rooster version has a lot of dough and not a lot filling–I wish it was the other way around–nevertheless, I gobble my pastie, and I am happy.  After the pastie we then inhale an order of eggs benedict–egg yolks not runny–booooo, an order of eggs over easy–cooked to perfection, hash browns, sausage patties and buttered rye toast…all of this is delicious and satisfying. . .mmmm, aaahh!  But the real star is the slice of cherry pie that I ingest with relish. . .really good pie. . .crust could be a bit more flaky, but overall this is a real star of our meal. . .and everything is washed down with bottomless unsweetened iced tea. . .mmmmm, aaaaahh!

So, if you ever find yerself wanderin’ around in the heart of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, please stop by the Red Rooster Cafe and put a feed on. . .they will treat you right and send you on your way plump and full.

I send you hits-the-spot vibes from the Red Rooster Cafe in Mineral Point. . .feel them. . .they will make you smile real big-like all day today.

Sea Horse brunch–

IMG_2774 IMG_2772 IMG_2770 IMG_2762The Cowgirl Sea Horse is such a cozy pub/restaurant that we have come back the day after our first visit to gobble brunch here, and it is totally delightful.  Above you see us gettin’ busy with the spicy shrimp and grits, jalapenos stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon–a thing they call Snakebites, yummy…I have the biscuits and sausage gravy with two eggs on top off camera…and of course everything is washed down with delicious bloody marys. . .mmm, aaaahh!  We love brunching down here at the Cowgirl Sea Horse pub because the crowd is chilled-out, the staff are friendly and welcoming, the food is delectable, and the drinks are rich and soothing. . .the place is located on the corner of Front Street and Dover Street in lower Manhattan–c’mon down, we know you will love it here, too.
