Venice…bellissimo–

DSCN1305 DSCN1288 DSCN1274 DSCN1237If you are looking to take it easy, see wonderful architecture, eat delectable food, and travel somewhere with few challenges beyond avoiding collisions with mobs of tourists, then you should consider a visit to Venice, Italy.  Hemingway loved it here, Proust loved it here, Peggy Guggenheim loved it here, the Doge loved it here, Elton John loves it here. . .as do George and Amal Clooney.  So, maybe you should get your butt on over here and check this place out.  There are lots of giant wooden doors, St. Mark’s Square during the day and at night, and the fabulous bartenders at Harry’s Bar who will be happy to serve you martinis or bellinis just like the ones that Hemingway and so many others have enjoyed throughout the years. . .mmm, aaaahh!  Thank you, yes, I will have another.

I send you extremely civilized vibes from Venice. . .feel them. . .they are good for you, occasionally.

Street scenes…Venice–

DSCN1309 DSCN1310 DSCN1308SHAZAM!  Here you see views of the old Jewish section of Venice, Italy.  Way-back-when Venice was one of the places that allowed Jewish folks to settle in as other cities and countries were expelling them. . .in fact, this is the first Jewish “getto” (now ‘ghetto’) according to Simon Schama in his wonderful PBS (Public Broadcasting System in the U.S.) series called “The Story of the Jews.”  More episodes of this series are playing on PBS on Tuesday, April 1 at 8:00 p.m.–I highly recommend it if you have even the slightest interest in human history.  Plus, I love the Jewish section of Venice, in fact, I love all of Venice, and I know you will too if you ever find yourself wandering around on this island city in the northern Adriatic Sea.

I send you historical vibes from Venice. . .feel them. . .they are a part of you and me.

FYI…I love the E.U.–

DSCN1241 DSCN3012 DSCN3185Yes, I do.  U.S. diplomats can say “ef this” and “ef that” all that they want. . .it’s fun for them to use language at work that they never use at home or at school.  The ef bomb gives diplomats a feeling of toughness and world-weariness that simply does not fit with the character or vibe of most of them. . .hence, they really don’t know how to use it.  And when they get caught in “private conversations” effing this and effing that, well, they are the ones who are really effed.  Effed up to the max.  So, let’s celebrate their attempts at vigor and sassy attitude. . .and bemoan the fact that this is the best we got. . .cuz no one who is really smart wants to do the mundane work of the government.  Discuss.

I send you effing beautiful vibes from Venice, Athens, and London–three of my favorite places in the E.U.. . .feel them. . .they are worthy of our utmost respect.

Venetian delights–

DSCN1288  DSCN1309DSCN1305YES!  Everyone seems to love Venice here in the upper-upper Adriatic off the coast of northeastern Italy.  Yes, there are crowds in the main areas of town: St. Mark’s Square, the walkways along the Grand Canal, in Harry’s Bar, etc., but I find that there are no crowds in what is referred to as the Jewish Quarter of town also known as the Cannaregio District.  It is quiet back here. . .lots of gorgeous canals. . .endless sweet buildings. . .the occasional cafe. . .and all of it relaxed, easy-going, and quiet.  I love the Cannaregio District of Venice, and you will too if you ever find yourself wandering around in the ‘City of Water.’

I send you richly historic vibes from Venice. . .feel them. . .they are absolutely delightful.

The vast majority…

DSCN2893 DSCN1873 DSCN1293…of folks on the planet are fun, chilled-out, and wonderful.  There is absolutely nothing better than popping around the Earth and seeing what’s what with everyone everywhere.  Greeks, Mexicans, English, etc.. . .I love ’em all. . .and we learn so much from each other–jaaaa!

I send you globehugging vibes from various corners of our little speck of rock floating amidst the 14 billion light year vastness of the universe. . .so small, so accidental. . .so, relax and enjoy the ride.  Feel these good vibes. . .they are worthy of your attention.  Mmmmm. . .aaaaaahh. . .

Harry’s Bar, Venice–

DSCN1240 DSCN1239OH YEAH!  If the martinis here at Harry’s Bar in Venice were good enough for Hemingway, then they are good enough for me.  Plus, you can enjoy a bellini or three. . .they were invented by Harry Cipriani–the owner. . .so why not?  Careful though, these drinks can make it quite difficult to find one’s hotel upon departure. . .not that I know anything about that.

I send you potent vibes from Harry’s Bar in Venice. . .feel them. . .they will set you straight.

Birthday in Venice–

DSCN1288 DSCN1287 DSCN1241POW!  I have the great honor of attending a birthday celebration in Venice.  My English friend, April, who you see above, loves Venice, and I am overjoyed to be the only ‘Yank’ allowed to share this special event with her and her family in ‘The Floating City.’  Magical, historic, gorgeous. . .Venice is all of these things and so much more.  Yes, it is crowded. . .yes, my fellow visitors are kinda nasty. . .but it is important to look past the masses and get lost deep in the back alleys and winding walkways far away from the crowds, for here is where the glorious vibe of  Venice can be found and felt.  Mmmmm, aaaaahh. . .I love Venice and her winding back alleys.

I send you fabulous vibes from Venice. . .feel them. . .they still have the power to mesmerize.
