BAM! Here is the Public Palace and the Mangia Tower located on Il Campo Square in the heart of Siena, Italy. These buildings date back to the thirteenth century, and along with the Duomo they are the main architectural symbols of this magnificent town. Lots of public business used to take place inside the Public Palace, in fact, I am sure that some business takes place here now. . .and the Mangia Tower got its name from the nickname of a guy who used to ring the bells way back when. . .they called him “Mangia”. . .not sure why, possibly cuz he ate a lot of tagliatelle with wild boar. . .but somehow the name stuck, and it is still with us today.
The Campo Square in front of these buildings is wonderful, and it is famous as the location for the horse races they conduct here every July and August called The Palio. Look this up on YouTube some time–it is quite spine-tingling. . .they convert the whole square to a big horserace track, tons of people pack in every nook and cranny, and dudes race horses bareback around the square doing their best to avoid serious injury, which they are not always successful at. Anyway, fascinating thing to read about and watch. . .you might enjoy.
I send you well-grounded vibes from the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena. . .feel them. . .they are well-worth your attention.
