Siena, Italy…bellissimo!

IMG_0017IMG_0026IMG_0029BAM!  Here is the Public Palace and the Mangia Tower located on Il Campo Square in the heart of Siena, Italy.  These buildings date back to the thirteenth century, and along with the Duomo they are the main architectural symbols of this magnificent town.  Lots of public business used to take place inside the Public Palace, in fact, I am sure that some business takes place here now. . .and the Mangia Tower got its name from the nickname of a guy who used to ring the bells way back when. . .they called him “Mangia”. . .not sure why, possibly cuz he ate a lot of tagliatelle with wild boar. . .but somehow the name stuck, and it is still with us today.

The Campo Square in front of these buildings is wonderful, and it is famous as the location for the horse races they conduct here every July and August called The Palio.  Look this up on YouTube some time–it is quite spine-tingling. . .they convert the whole square to a big horserace track, tons of people pack in every nook and cranny, and dudes race horses bareback around the square doing their best to avoid serious injury, which they are not always successful at.  Anyway, fascinating thing to read about and watch. . .you might enjoy.

I send you well-grounded vibes from the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena. . .feel them. . .they are well-worth your attention.

Tuscan grub…Siena-style–

IMG_0013 IMG_0014 IMG_0016 IMG_6112Here in Siena, one of the sweetest towns in Tuscany, the grub is a tad more rustic and a bit more heavy than the stuff we were gobbling in Emilia-Romagna.  Nevertheless, we love it.

Above you see us putting a feed on at a place called Trattoria Da Trombicche located on Via della Terme near the heart of town.  The procedure at a Sienese trattoria is to select items like hams, sausages, cheeses, salads, veggies, etc. out of a glass display case along with a pasta, order some house red wine, sit down, and ingest all of these delectable items until they are gone. . .then we sit and digest just a bit before heading out to have macchiatos at a cafe. . .mmmm, aaaahh!  The workers in these trattorias are helpful and attentive. . .so if you have any questions, then ask away, and they will do their best to explain what everything is on display. . .this is adventurous and tasty eating–dive on in, you will love.

I send you hearty vibes from the trattorias of Siena. . .feel them. . .they are educational and nutritious.

#1 inn…Siena, Italy–

IMG_0007 IMG_0009 IMG_0044 IMG_6094BOOM!  Here it is–the number one inn in Siena, Italy: Campo Regio Relais.  Campo Regio is an old townhouse that has been converted into a luxurious inn. . .there are only six rooms here, and the best room has to be the one we are in, number five, because it is the only room with a private terrace that has the views you see above.  The whole of Siena sits before you as you hang out on this terrace eating, drinking, reading, and generally enjoying the passage of time.  If you ever find yourself planning a visit to Siena, then I highly recommend that you check this place out. . .if you can, book room number five, and get ready to soak up the vibes of this magnificent old town from your private terrace.

I send you extremely fabulous vibes from Campo Regio in Siena. . .feel them. . .they are as good as it gets.
