Zihua for you-a–

DSCN1883 DSCN1873 DSCN1825 DSCN1813When the winter chill gets too deep into your bones I recommend that you head on down to Zihuatanejo, Mexico. . .dat’s Zihua for you-a, baby!

This is the fishing village that Tim Robbins dreams about while chipping his way out of prison in The Shawshank Redemption–a film that most people love and quite a few actually revere.

Zihua, as you can see, is gorgeous, serene, relaxing, and full of warm people like the lady you see me hangin’ with above.  I cannot say enough about this place. . .if I did not love Southeast Asia so much, then I might actually live here.  We’ll see how Thailand works out. . .if not so well, then Zihua here we come!

I send you immensely welcoming vibes from Zihuatanejo. . .feel them. . .they can make you smile no matter where you are or what the weather is like for you right now.

Zihuatanejo on my mind…

DSCN1883 DSCN1881 DSCN1879…all of the time. . .mmmm!  Infinity pools, blues players, and super-duper deep-sea fishing. . .Zihua has all of these things and so much more.  Plus, they never get early spring nor’easters here–what a joy!. . .sure, they get the occasional Pacific coast storm, but hey, you just batten down the hatches, grab a cold Corona, and ride it out.  When the storm is over you simply repair the damages and get back to doing what many of us love to do best–hang out and stare at the stars wondering about the mysteries of our fascinating universe. . .all 13.8 billion light years of it and counting.  I love staring at the stars from Zihuatanejo, Mexico, and you will too if you ever find yourself down here killin’ time.

I send you warm vibes from Zihua. . .feel them. . .they feel great against bare skin.

Above you see me hangin’ in Zihuatanejo. . .the sleepy fishing village that Tim Robbins wants to escape to in The Shawshank Redemption–a favorite movie of so many movie fans.  Once you are here it is easy to see why Stephen King chose this town as the quintessential getaway for the main character of his novel of the same name.  I love Zihuatanejo, and you will too if you ever find yourself needing to get away down Mexicali way.

I send you dreamy vibes from Zihua. . .feel them. . .they are fabulous!

Mexican dough–

sc00ada3d9 sc00ad97dfThe money in Mexico is the ‘Peso.’  We all know this.  1 USD equals almost 13 Pesos. . .so the bill above is worth about 4 bucks.  This is great because many, many tasty tidbits in Mexico cost less than 4 bucks.  Muy bien!

Mexico is one of the world’s great countries geographically and humanly.  Great environment and great people. . .I wish better times for our neighbor to the south.  Feel the delicious vibes that I am sending to you from Mexico. . .they are warm and inviting.

Zihua xmas–

DSCN0206DSCN0210Poinsettias and poinsettia pinatas are all the rage in Zihuatanejo, Mexico at xmas time.  They are sold all day and all night in a market on the edge of downtown.  I love being in warm places during cold holidays. . .at least cold holidays for someone who grew up in Michigan.  In fact, I love being in warm places all of the time.  I do not need any more cold around me. . .ever.

I send you warm weather/cold holiday vibes from Zihua. . .feel them. . .they are intertwined.  Happy xmas forever and ever. . .

Jammin’ with Jimmy–

DSCN0197 DSCN0195Here I am again jammin’ away with Jimmy Mamou down in Zihuatanejo, Mexico.  Jimmy is a great blues player and singer. . .I would venture to say that he is a bit of a real-deal blues man. . .despite his chili pepper vest.

We chat with him a bit while he takes a break.  I ask him why he lives in Zihuatanejo.  He says, “because this place is tranquillo, the people believe in tranquillo.”  “I like that,” he says.  Tranquility, yes. . .that is what we all want.  A place to work and be tranquill.  Yes, I like that too.  I could live here with absolutely no problem.

I send you tranquill vibes from Jimmy Mamou here in Zihua. . .feel them. . .they are soooo niiiiice.

Flambazo–

DSCN0178 DSCN0174This is my late night go-to spot in Zihuatanejo, Mexico.  It is called La Flama del Tizon, and above you see my favorite dish here. . .called the Flambazo.  The Flambazo is mix of ham, chorizo, chiles, jalapenos, and onions all grilled steaming hot with melted cheese holding the whole thing together.  This dish is yummy.  I squirt lime juice all over it and gobble the whole thing down.  I think we are supposed to load tortillas with this mixture and eat them like mini burritos, but I don’t do this. . .I just eat the whole thing off of the plate.  A perfect snack at two a.m. after we have been jammin’ and hangin’ at the salsa club.

I send you filling vibes from La Flama del Tizon. . .feel them. . .you can’t help but feel them.
