Taliesin West is what he called it…Taliesin being his main home back in Spring Green, Wisconsin…and he loved being out here. The house is located about twenty miles or so outside of central Phoenix, and he considered this place a big experiment in utilizing only local construction materials and in practicing ‘new’ building techniques and design styles. The whole thing is full of successes and failures, but it is one-hundred-percent fun to explore.
Frank lived here until his dying day…he died in Phoenix Hospital on April 9, 1959…his body was transported back to Wisconsin to be buried, but his legacy lives on in both Taliesins–West and the main one back east–and in the hundreds of fascinating structures that were built during his nearly seventy-year career as one of the world’s great architects.
Please consider visiting Taliesin West the next time you find yourself hangin’ out in the Phoenix, Arizona area…you will love it–I gar-ron-taaaayy!
