Captain Frederick Pabst made his way to America from Germany as a child, became a ship’s captain at some point, moved to Milwaukee, and then got into the beer brewing game where he did so well that Pabst Brewery was the world’s largest brewery for a goodly period of time. He was the “first citizen” of Milwaukee, and he built this mansion on a hill just outside the center of town where he lived until his dying day. Nice house, duuuuude. . .we LOVE Captain Pabst!
Please pay homage to this great guy the next time you visit Milwaukee. . .there are tours of the house daily and then you can pop back downtown, hit a pub, and tip a PBR–that’s a Pabst Blue Ribbon, preferably in a can–in the Captain’s honor. . .you will love it all, I gar-ron-taaaaayy!
It’s fun searching for ‘merica.
