We just happen to be hangin’ in Door County, Wisconsin when the big antique tractor show is taking place. . .most wonderful! The sun is shining, the sausages are grillin’ , the motors are runnin’, the people are chillin’, and we are honored to be continuin’ our search for America just outside the town of Sturgeon Bay at the Valmy Thresheree. The Valmy Thresheree is a fairground of sorts where antique and modern farming equipment are on display in a museum-like setting. Folks are treated to demonstrations, instructional talks, and lots of opportunities to learn about old motors and best practices for improving new equipment for the planting, cultivating, and harvesting of grains and veggies grown in the area. . .totally fascinating–jaaaa!
The big event of the annual antique tractor show here is the pig wrestling competition on the last day, which unfortunately we are missing. A bunch a dudes and dudettes climb into a muddy pen with some pigs and attempt to catch them. Everyone gets muddy–the people more than the pigs–and a good time is had by all.
Some folks are against the pig wrestling part of the show as this stresses the animals unnecessarily, but as I noted above, “when in Rome. . ..” Just come on in and enjoy everything that is happening. If you have a problem with any of it, then just mosey on out of the grounds, jump in your car, and drive away. . .cheers!
I send you gear head and farm animal vibes from the antique tractor show at the Valmy Thresheree here in Door County, Wisconsin. . .feel them. . .they are a big part of what makes our planet go around and around.
