KAPOW! The 4th of July parade in Mineral Point, Wisconsin is simple and straightforward: the Veterans of Foreign Wars lead the parade down High Street right smack dab through the heart of town. . .then there are some high school bands playing marching tunes. . .then there are fire trucks, rescue squad vehicles, and ambulances–eleven vehicles in all–quite impressive for such a small town. . .then there are representative fire trucks and rescue vehicles from surrounding towns like Darlington, Linden, and Dodgeville. . .then a few politicians running for office. . .then lots of farm equipment–tractors, sprayers, hay balers, etc.. . .and then a bunch of folks on horses representing more of the surrounding farming communities that drive the economy around here. It all lasts about an hour, and finally we head to the water tower park just up the street for a steak sandwich lunch. . .mmmm, aaaahh! What a wonderful way to spend the morning. . .we all love a parade, don’t we? Sure we do.
