Good Old Potosi–

IMG_3497 IMG_3506 IMG_3513IMG_3510POW!  We finally made it to Potosi, the home of our new favorite beer, Good Old Potosi. . .jaaaa!!  Potosi is a little town in Wisconsin located about halfway between Mineral Point, Wisconsin and Dubuque, Iowa, and the brewery here has quite a story.  The brewery was founded back in the late 19th century by a bunch of German dudes who needed something refreshing to drink because the water sometimes could not be trusted.  The Potosi Brewery thrived for a number of decades, then it fell on hard times and closed down for a number of decades, but the buildings were left intact.  After a lot of years with no activity the buildings started to crumble. . .this is where a dude called Gary David steps in.  Gary David is a furniture maker and woodworker…he is a local boy who made good in New York and Chicago…then he returned to Potosi and bought all of the crumbling buildings of the Potosi Brewery.  He then assembled a team of locals and other interested parties to totally refurbish the brewery and bring it online once again.  Today the whole place is beautiful and thriving. . .about 70 people make a living here thanks to the efforts of Gary David et al.. . .there is a brewing museum here, they have many varieties of beer that one can purchase and enjoy, Gary has his furniture workshop and store here–we bought a couple of his stools, they are gorgeous. . .amazingly all profits from the business are donated to charities and local not-for-profits, and the place is an overall lovely stop while tooling around in the rolling hills of southwestern Wisconsin.  I highly recommend a visit here if you ever find yerself in these parts. . .stop in, buy some beer, say ‘hello’ to Gary, and know that you are supporting a good cause by being here.

I send you sustainable vibes from Potosi, Wisconsin. . .feel them. . .they should be the wave of the future.
