BAM! Frank Langella is rockin’ n rollin’ on Broadway at the moment in a new play called The Father…not Strindberg’s version, but a new play that a person called Florian Zeller has decided to call The Father (‘Le Pere’ in French).
Florian is a French novelist and playwright. . .the current Broadway version of his play is a translation by Christopher Hampton–the same dude who translated Les Liaisons Dangereuses for us, plus so many more. . .the set is focused and fluid. . .the sound is alluring and haunting. . .the lighting is kinetic and alive. . .and the performances are efficient and engrossing. . .but the real shining light in this production is Frank Langella–he is magical, involving, subtle and purposeful…everything he says and does has meaning in this show. It is an honor to have the opportunity to see this dude ROCK IT live onstage in this tight and heartfelt production. . .in short, I love this actor. . .there is no better male actor onstage anywhere in the world at the moment. If you love theater, then you should be booking your tickets NOW to see the guy who will win the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play in the 2015/16 Broadway season.
What’s this show about? It’s about a woman’s father dealing with, managing, and becoming enveloped by Alzheimers disease. Bring your tissues…you’re gonna need them.
I send you cathartic vibes from the Friedman Theatre on 47th Street and Broadway. . .feel them. . .they will help you keep your feet on the ground.
