MMM! This is one of our favorite wats in the Old Quarter of Chiang Mai: Wat Phan Tao. This one is located right next to the iconic and much larger Wat Chedi Luang…it is built entirely of wood, it is old–dates back six or seven hundred years though the current structure was built some time in the 19th century, and it is extremely charming and cozy. There are lovely grounds around the main wat structure with the highlight being the gold Buddha statue placed beneath a Banyan tree and surrounded by pristine gravel that is raked smooth and clean. No one can walk in this area. . .the Buddha sits there in the open with no one near him, meditating on nothing, feeling everything, soaring in a state of enlightenment. . .mmm, aaaahh! Nomadic wanderers like us love this wat and walking these grounds. . .be sure to spend some time at Wat Phan Tao if you ever find yourself in Chiang Mai–you will love it here, too. . .I gar-ron-taaaay!
I send you entrancing vibes from Wat Phan Tao here in Chiang Mai. . .feel them. . .they will invigorate you all day long.
