BAM! Another great recommendation from chef Andy Ricker of Pok-Pok fame. . .he loves this place at the moment cuz he is researching Shan food and because everything served here is ABSOLUTELY TASTY! It’s called Hearn Kham, and if you ever find yourself wandering around near the Mercure Hotel just north of the moat in Chiang Mai, then you will wanna grab a seat and order something from every page of the menu. . .jaaa!!
The Shan people are located in the Shan region of Myanmar, and they have a wonderful cuisine all their own. . .it’s not too different from northern Thai cuisine–the flavors are bold, the heat is turned up high if you want it to be, and all of the ingredients are fresh, natural, and delectable. During our visit we gobble an egg salad thing–totally yummy, a pork meatball soup–super delectable, raw veggies with a magical dipping sauce, deep fried fish–crispy-juicy-and totally gobble-worthy, spicy salad, etc. and so on. . .EVERYTHING ROCKS!. . .mmmm, aaaahh! The only drag is that the guy doesn’t serve beer here, and I am too lazy to go get one…so we wash everything down with ice water–blah–but really doesn’t diminish from the wonderful setting, the friendly dude who took our order, cooked our order, and delivered our order to us–a regular one-man operation during the day…and there are also the flavors, the fragrances, the open-air vibe of Southeast Asia. . .damn, we love this place!! Eat here…you will love it too, or I will refund your money…I promise, I will, but I know that I won’t have to:-).
Anyway, I send you Shan vibes from Hearn Kham in Chiang Mai, Thailand. . .feel them. . .they will make your mouth water all day long.
