I know, I know. . .small, hidden neighborhood restaurants and people’s homes are where the really good food is served in Rome. . .I know, and I have eaten in a number of these really good places–lots of fabulous food to be had here in Rome, without a doubt. But, truly, the tastiest place that I have ever eaten here is the spot you see above: Armando Al Pantheon. Yes, this place is just around the corner from the Pantheon. . .yes, it is in what is considered a “touristic” area. . .yes, there is no outdoor seating. . .and yes, many tourists do eat here. . .BUT, this place is rated “three shrimps” in the 2015 Gambero Rosso Guide (basically the Italian version of the Michelin Guide), and it is absolutely wonderful.
A dude called Claudio Gargioli runs Armando Al Pantheon. . .he is in the kitchen every day and cooks everything, and man, can this guy cook. . .he rocks it! The menu is typical Roman cuisine prepared and served up at the highest level. . .we eat lunch here two days in a row and gobble items that include pasta amitriciana, cacio e pepe, carbonara, oxtail stew, anchovies with butter on toast, bruschetta with tomatoes, tagliolini with ragu of cod, saltimbocca, Roman cake, etc. and so on. . .all of this stuff is cooked super al dente and to perfection. . .and all of it is washed down with lovely Italian whites that make us sit up real straight and smile real wide. . .mmm, aaaahh! And on top of all of this, Claudio is a wonderful fellow as is the entire staff here–world-class, top-notch, fun, and chilled-out. . .thank you all for your fabulous Roman hospitality, we cannot wait to eat with you again and again and again.
This place is great, period! Please eat here if you ever find yourself in Rome lookin’ to put a feed on. . .you will love, I gar-ron-taaaay!
I send you delectable vibes from Armando Al Pantheon in Rome. . .feel them. . .they are full of love, joy, and contentment.
