The father of independent Burma, General Aung San, worked in this office for many years during the struggle for Burmese independence from the British. Aung San is essentially the George Washington of Burma/Myanmar. . .a dude who was committed to helping his country break free of colonial constraints and finding their own way in the 20th century and beyond. He was assassinated in Yangon in 1947 just before Burma officially became independent. . .obviously he stepped on a few toes during his short time on Earth–hmmmm. . .you gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette. It is an honor to stand in a room where this vital dude worked.
Of course, his daughter is Aung San Suu Kyi. . .the activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner who is working today to help open Myanmar up to the world. . .like father, like daughter–mmmmhhmmmm!!
I send you fiercely independent vibes from Aung San’s office in Yangon. . .feel them. . .they can set you free.
