Gateway to the bayou–

photo 2 photo 1IMG_0040POW!  Here we are taking in views of Henderson Swamp, the gateway into the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area in southwestern Louisiana–also know as Cajun Country.  Swamp people, bayou boys, Cajuns, and other assorted folks make their homes down here. . .lots of potential for 0ff-the-grid living. . .oh yeah!

Mystical, magical, dense, vast, other-worldly, harsh, beautiful, etc. all describe the Atchafalaya. . .mmm, aaaahh!  The word ‘Atchafalaya’ comes from the native Americans who used to live here, and it means ‘long river.’  This region, America’s largest wetlands and swamp area, certainly feels like a long river of some sort when you are wandering around in it. . .I could spend days and days here boating around, contemplating the life force, staring at my navel and the navel of the universe–this could be a little-known meaning of the word Atchafalaya. . .someone look this us and get back to me with verification, if you can.  Atchafalaya–navel of the universe–it has a good ring to it. . .I like, I like!!

I send you navel-of-the-universe vibes from southwestern Louisiana. . .feel them. . .they are lint free and full of peace and joy.
