BAM! Folks start lining up at 7:00 a.m. on Saturdays at Cafe Des Amis down here in Breaux Bridge so they can get a good table when the doors open at around 8. By 8;10 a.m. the place is packed, people are sipping bloody marys and mimosas, waitstaff is taking food orders, and then the music and dancing starts. . .welcome to the number one Cajun breakfast spot in all of Cajun Country–jaaaa!
The Cajuns have had a rough existence being kicked out of France, then kicked out of Canada only to end up in southwestern Louisiana where the land is swampy and rough. . .but they hunkered down here, worked hard, and have built farms and communities that are as vital and productive and solid as any others that I have visited. These are good solid people, and I love hangin’ out with ’em. . .you will too if you ever find yourself wanderin’ around in Acadiana lookin’ for a nutritious breakfast.
I send you celebratory vibes from Cafe Des Amis. . .feel them. . .they are most worthy of your attention.
